At Factoria Eye Clinic, Bellevue, we understand that when you look great, you feel great. However, when it comes to eyewear, exactly what makes you stand apart from the rest can vary hugely – based on factors such as your personal style, your physical appearance, the time of year and your unique visual requirements.
Our mission is to ensure that our patients always have the opportunity to take advantage of the latest eyewear fashions. For this reason, we actively seek out the newest styles, adding to our ranges quarterly. We also attend Vision Expo so that we can discover and bring back the newest eyewear innovations. Whatever designers you wish to try, whatever shape, color or style of frame you desire, our experienced and dedicated team are open to suggestions – just let us know!
In the meantime, here is what you need to know about the ways in which we continue to bring the latest eyewear innovations to our very satisfied patients.
A great set of frames is nothing if the lenses that they hold are thick and clunky. Fortunately, we have access to the latest lens technology meaning that you can enjoy the benefit of the possibility of the thinnest, lightest lenses on the market. Our expert team will be able to advise you which lenses are most appropriate for you based upon your individual requirements.
Glare is a common problem with many conventional lenses. It can make it hard for people to make eye contact with you, and ruin photographs. Anti-glare coating is widely available for most lens types, enabling your lenses to appear virtually invisible and your eyes clear to see. They can eliminate glare from computer screens, harsh strip lighting and headlights, and can make it much easier and more comfortable to drive at night.
Asian features are typically extremely small and delicate, and we understand that this can sometimes make finding the perfect frames challenging, particularly if you wish to opt for fashionable and trendy plastic frames. For this reason, we now carry a stunning selection of plastic frames, all of which can have nose pads fitted which will enable our Asian patients to enjoy the latest styles while retaining a secure and comfortable fit.
UV light can damage our eyes even on fairly cloudy days. For this reason, it is important to invest in proper sun protection at all times. Fortunately, our patients have a number of options available to them. These include clip-on sunglasses and transition lenses.
Clip-on sunglasses can be bought in many stores across the country. However, these budget solutions are often poorly designed and can scratch the lenses of your normal glasses – a costly problem. Equally, they do not always provide adequate UV protection. We are delighted to be able to offer custom-designed clip-on sunglasses that are made specifically for your frames and that guarantee sufficient UV protection to keep your eyes safe from the sun.
Transition lenses are photochromic lenses that are clear indoors, but that darken when they come into contact with UV light. The brighter the sun is, the darker your lenses will become until they mirror the tint of conventional sunglasses. They have the added benefit of blocking 100% UV light, meaning that you can rest assured that your eyes will always be properly protected when you wear them. That said, transition lenses do not darken properly when you are inside a vehicle since there is not enough UV exposure. For this reason, we recommend that you consider prescription sunglasses for driving.
Prescription sunglasses offer the perfect combination of UV protection and complete clarity of vision. Available in a wide variety of lens materials and designs, including ultra-thin and progressive lenses, prescription sunglasses can be placed into virtually any frame, enabling you to retain a stylish appearance. They are also available polarized, giving you superior glare protection ideal for activities such as boating, fishing and driving.
Many patients who participate in sports or who use dangerous equipment such as power tools opt for prescription sunglasses that have lightweight polycarbonate or Trivex lenses. This is because they offer far greater impact resistance than conventional plastic or glass lenses.

Eye strain, myopia (near-sightedness) and dry eye syndrome are all common side effects of spending a great deal of time sat looking at a computer screen. Nevertheless, if your work entails computer time then you have limited options with which to address this problem. One of the best ways to reduce the effect that computer usage has on your optical health is something known as computer ergonomics. This is where your individual workspace is designed to fit your requirements so that any negative physical effects are reduced. This includes computer vision syndrome, neck and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive strain injury and more. In the case of keeping your eyes healthy, this means positioning your screen at eye level at least 20 inches from your eyes, making sure there is no glare on the screen and taking regular breaks to look at things in the distance so your eyes can rest and adjust.
Eye level in relation to screen?
It may also be helpful to know where your screen is in relation to eye level. This means if you are sitting up straight with your head in neutral position and you look straight ahead…is your screen straight ahead or do you drop your eyes approximately 15 degrees to see the monitor.
Our knowledgeable staff will be delighted to offer their advice and support when it comes to computer ergonomics and reducing the risks to your eyes associated with your work.
